Healthy eating habits: small changes you can keep

Strict diets fail because they are hard to keep. Small repeatable changes usually last longer.

Change one thing at a time

Pick one change for two to four weeks, then add another. Ten changes at once rarely survive the first stressful week.

Eight small habits

  1. Add before you remove. Add a vegetable or fruit to a meal.
  2. Eat at regular times. It makes cravings and overeating easier to manage for many people.
  3. Drink water. Keep a bottle in sight (see the water habit).
  4. Plan two or three meals a week. A short list prevents last-minute choices.
  5. Cook more often. Simple meals are fine.
  6. Eat slowly and without screens when you can.
  7. Keep snacks you like in sight and treats out of sight.
  8. Allow flexibility. One meal does not ruin a week.

Tools in Jeevan

Jeevan includes simple calculators for calories, protein, water and BMI. They give an estimate you can adjust, and some can add a habit with your target. They are general tools and not medical advice.

Health note: if you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or have a history of disordered eating, talk to a doctor or registered dietitian first.
