How much water do you need?
There is no single number. Needs depend on your size, the weather, how active you are and what you eat. A common guide is about 2 to 3 litres of total fluid a day for many adults, but a doctor or dietitian can advise on what is right for you, especially if you have a medical condition.
A simple 5-step plan
- Start with a glass on waking. It is an easy anchor and takes under a minute.
- Keep a bottle in sight. A bottle on your desk is a constant cue.
- Link water to routines. A glass with each meal and one when you sit down to work.
- Set two or three reminders. For example, mid-morning, mid-afternoon and early evening.
- Track the total. Seeing a number go up turns water into a small daily win.
Tips if you do not like plain water
- Add lemon, mint or cucumber
- Try warm water or unsweetened herbal tea
- Eat water-rich foods such as fruit and soups
