Start smaller than you think
Two or three sessions a week of 30 to 45 minutes is enough to begin. Adults are generally advised to aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week, but you can build up to that. A habit you can keep beats a plan you abandon.
Seven steps
- Pick fixed days. Monday, Wednesday and Friday beats "whenever I can".
- Pick a fixed time. Right after work or before breakfast, whichever you will actually do.
- Write the workout down. Deciding at the gym wastes energy. Use a simple weekly split.
- Set a minimum. On bad days, 15 minutes counts. Showing up is the habit.
- Prepare the night before. Bag packed, shoes by the door.
- Track every session. A visible streak makes the next one easier.
- Find a partner. A friend turns skipping into letting someone down.
